Its still one of the more beautiful spots, in a city already greatly over endowed with beautiful spots, to pause and catch your breath. It may be tiny, it may be more garden than park but. In the summer there are a few too many tourists, and the chairs are not that comfortable, so bring a cushion if you plan to sit for more than an hour. Grab a bite to go from one of the nearby restaurants, take a seat, and just relax in an environment made for just that purpose.Ī nice little getaway in the neighborhood where you can bring a book and chill out. This is a nice little vacation from the surrounding historic district low-end-of-downtown buzz that permeates the area. You wont find a better lunch spot in the area. There is a security officer here and the transient mobs from Pioneer Square wont hassle you for money while you eat your lunch. Grab some lunch from one of the food trucks in Occidental Park, make the walk to this spot, and enjoy one of the most tranquil places in this chaotic city. If you happen by during the day, ok, but dont plan on going there late in the evenings.Īt this location in 1907, a young businessman borrowed $100 from a friend and started the American Messenger Company in Seattle, Washington. Oddly enough, int the warm summer days, when its dark till 10pm, this park can close up and shut down the water falls, and lock the iron gates at 5pm. Its not a public park but a site owned by a non-profit, so they close it and lock it up. But that doesnt matter, because its a beautiful little park filled with waterfalls! If we had more time, its a place I wouldnt mind staying for half a day in quiet comtemplation. Its walled off so you cant even tell that its there unless you peer through the thick plants of the trellis. Such a hidden gem in the middle of the city. Its also worth noting that on site security was visible there so it seems like during business hours its a pretty safe place to be. One of Seattles Diamonds in the Rough IMO. It smells a bit funky due to the water everywhere but is very beautiful year round. If I worked in this area I would eat my lunch here frequently.
